When you are are your own boss from home it is very important to make sure that you have the proper tools to succeed. Yes we know that working from home usually means online, but you need the essentials to make that happen.

Now I bet I have peaked your interest into that signle one computer that is best. Well it isn’t quite that easy.  It depends on what type of online business or home business that you want to run. 

For most online jobs having a laptop can be ideal as you will then have the ability to work from anywhere. 

Now if you are looking to have an online business that requires alot of processing you want to make sure that you have a good processing chip and potentially an external hard drive.

If you want to run a home photography business, you might want to consider having a desktop computer. Many times there will be more storage space available than in a laptop computer.

One feature that I have found amazing on my laptop is the touchscreen ability.

We should also talk about working online and preventing injuries.

Ergonomic Office Items

If you are getting into a buiness online where you are writing alot you might want to consider and ergonomic keyboard and or mouse. I found with my online business I was good for the first two years and then I slowly had carpel tunnel setting into my writsts.

We only get one body and we need to make sure that we take care of it. The next item to consider is a your desk and chair.

Ergonomic Desks and Chairs

There were studies done in the US that the optimal amount to be seated at a desk job is 20 minutes at a time, so having the ability to use a standing desk is truly beneficial.

When you think back to evolution the cavemen started out hunting and gathering. The were not sitting in the back of the cave ordering everything including food of the internet.

There are two different schools of thoughts for chairs that are ergonomic. You can us a regular desk chair that has ergonomic design or my route is a physio ball.

The physio ball is great because it allows you to be in motion if you want to keep moving. You can bounce on it, roll it back and forth or there is even a Gaiam Physio Ball chair with a base.

The Physio Ball can be great for doing ab exercises as well even away from your desk and working out. One of the best benefits of running you own business from home or working online is you can set up your schedule with what works for you.

That is almost everything that is needed but we forgot to cover your wifi or internet connection.

Best Routers and Modems

Depending on who is your internet provider they might go ahead and offer you a modem and router. But if you have the option of choosing yourself I really advise you to check these out.

I have used the Linksys wifi router for the past 2 years and have no complaints except having to restart it maybe once a month due to static build up.

The Modems are great as well. Our internet provider offers us the modem and we have had an Arris for the past 3 years and prior to that we used the Net gear brand.

Other non essential items that I can think of are in regards to your nutrition. For me that includes an amazing coffee mug and water bottle.

Spillproof Mugs and Waterbottles

The last thing you want to have happen when you sit down to work at your desk is a spill on your laptop or keyboard. Especially if you have not saved whatever project you were in the middle of finishing.

Here are my top favorites that I have at my desk daily to enjoy a great cup of joe and a spillproof water bottle.
